  1. It’s worth pointing out that many early humanists felt the same way as the author of 1 Timothy. This is not surprising; they were products of their society.

    The idea of men and women having equal rights is a modern concept, even among secular societies. (Note: there are much older cultures which have always considered men and women to have equal rights, but they are very small; the dominant cultures of our planet have only recently begun to accept self-determination for women.)
